Country of Origin: India
Ajwan is produced
heavily in India. It is related to Cumin but tastes more like dried
thyme. Ajwan is used for indigestion and gas relief in Middle Eastern
countries like Iran and Egypt. This may be the primary use in those
countries, as it is grown there as well.
Ajwan smells and
tastes of thyme .. for flavoring purposes use thyme as a substitute.
It is quite hot if used alone. Mix crushed Ajowan with other spices
such as Cumin and Coriander to season chicken and fish, it also goes
well with lentils, beans, and root vegetables. |
